Imagine a world where the absence of a car doesn't spell the end of mobility...

Where the lack of a personal vehicle isn't a barrier but a chance to engage with the city's pulse in a way that's both communal as well as efficient…

Well guess what… This isn't a far-fetched fantasy; it's the reality here in Fredericksburg!

Fredericksburg offers a plethora of public transportation options that can take you where you want to go efficiently.

In this guide, we'll take you on a journey through the various modes of public transportation available in and out of Fredericksburg!

Fredericksburg's transportation system is intrinsically linked to the region’s history, culture, and landscape. Its location along the Rappahannock River and proximity to Washington D.C. make it a hub for commuters and tourists alike.

Understanding this geography is key to appreciating the significance of public transportation here!

Imagine standing on the banks of the Rappahannock, watching the boats that once carried tobacco and merchandise… or watching the locomotive roll by on the iconic railroad bridge north towards DC or south towards Richmond.

The Rappahannock River is essential to the identity plus the character of the region’s transportation infrastructure.

Public transportation in Fredericksburg offers a diverse array of choices, catering to various needs and preferences.

If you ever visit Caroline Street in Downtown Fredericksburg, or if you linger around Central Park long enough you will eventually encounter one of the Fredericksburg Regional Transit (FRED) buses.

These buses are the backbone of local public transportation, connecting the city's neighborhoods together with key attractions.

You can hop on a FRED bus to reach destinations like the Fredericksburg Visitor Center, Mary Washington Hospital, or even Germanna Community College.
